In June, 2015, eight students and four adults traveled from Boise, Idaho to South Africa! While there, the group engaged in a variety of service projects in the Centocow, Creighton, and Durban areas, including painting the Vulingqundo PreSchool; delivering new “Netball” uniforms to girls at the Kumkani Primary School; helping with deliveries of food parcels to families in need; distributing reading glasses to elders; and participating in activities at “Bobbi Bear,” a non-profit organization that helps children that are victims of sexual abuse.
The students and adults also toured the Soweto Township, visited the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, and observed lions, elephants, rhinos, and other African wildlife at the Nambiti private game reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. The group took handmade dolls, soccer balls, clothes, flip flops, and other items and distributed them to children they met in the rural villages they visited.
